The Center for Democracy and Development at the University of Massachusetts
Boston is an active consultant for organizations like the US State
Department and the World Bank on issues related to the promotion of
rule-of-law, judicial reform, media development and democracy
promotion. Over the last decade we have conducted projects in Russia, the
Balkans, China and throughout Africa.
Currently we have the opportunity to apply for a grant that is specifically
targetted at the promotion of media-supporting-democracy in Russia with a
focus on 'new' media.
Our immediate interest is to identify an on-going project of similar
scope in Russia that could benefit from cooperation and resources coming
from the United States. This project could be coming from either the NGO or
the private sector as long it makes use of 'new media' in the promotion of
democratic values and practices. (*Things like citizen participation, public
discussion forums, voter education, voting rights, campaign finance
monitoring, election coverage and monitoring.) *
We are not anticipating a grant of more than $250,000 so we want to make
sure that the project is viable and has a great chance for sustainability.
Given the funding limits we will not be able to fund equipment or
infrastructure projects but could likely fund software development costs,
travel costs and consulting.
I regret that we also have a short time-frame and would need a response by
the *middle of next week*.
The response should be a one-page description of the proposed project with
details about the current status. A biographical statement from the project
leaders is also requested as well as a *separate communication* specifically
requesting assistance from the University of Massachusetts, Center for
Democracy and Development.
All of the above can be done via-email.
I would very much appreciate you passing this opportunity along to your
contacts and look forward to working with you on this moving forward.
